HVCC Professor comments on NASA’s DART

On Oct. 27, Assistant Professor Richard Monda, who teaches Physics and Astronomy, spoke with WTEN ABC News 10 about NASA’s successful spacecraft/asteroid collision, known as a Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART, around 7:14 p.m. ET Oct. 26.

The rocket carrying DART launched in November 2021. Through seven million miles of space, it watched the 500-foot diameter asteroid for about 10 months, and then hit it Monday with an impact of 14,000 mph. NASA determined the “crash” changed the asteroid’s orbit, which was the goal!
